The 2016 Audi A7 features a luxe interior, generous cargo space, muscular engines, and balanced handling. But its faults – a low reliability rating, tight rear-seat headroom, and an above-average price tag – pull this Audi toward the bottom of our Audi A7 Overview Is the 2016 Audi A7 a Good Used Car? In many ways, the 2016 Audi A7 is an excellent used luxury large car . It blends the agile handling of a sports coupe, the refined cabin and smooth ride of a luxury sedan, and the large cargo space of a hatchback. It’s a car that is as pleasant to drive as it is practical. Factor in the A7’s advanced safety features and potent engines, and it’s a great buy. The largest black mark against the A7 is its reliability rating, which is one of the worst in the class. Why You Can Trust Us Our goal is to make shopping for your next car as easy as possible. Expect to pay $49,900 on average to buy a used 2016 A7. This estimate is based on more than 60 A7 listings on our used car site, with overall prices ranging between $39,500 and $62,500. Trim level, vehicle condition, and mileage are among the reasons that prices vary so widely. See the Best Used Car Deals » How Much Does the 2016 Audi A7 Cost to Own? Over five years, it will cost approximately $31,400 to pay for a 2016 A7’s insurance, fuel, maintenance, and repairs. These projected expenses are close to the class average. Is It Better to Buy a Used or New A7? If you want to buy a 2018 Audi A7 instead of a used 2016 model, brace yourself for a hefty price increase. The base MSRP of a new A7 starts at $69,700 – a whopping $20,000 more than the average list price of a 2016 A7. Buying new does reward you with a few extras, though. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 14-speaker Bose surround-sound system, and LED ambient lighting are standard in the 2018 A7’s base trim. However, with the exception of smartphone integration, many of these features were available in the 2016 model. Chances are you can buy a top-of-the-line 2016 A7 and still spend less than you would on a 2018 model. All in all, the 2016 A7 is the smarter buy. Read about the new Audi A7 » If you want to buy a new car from the luxury large car class , but you still wish to keep your costs in line with the average 2016 A7 price tag, you’ll have to compromise on performance, interior finish, or both. One of the few options worthy of consideration is the 2018 Cadillac XTS MSRP $46,395. It doesn’t fully match the agility, horsepower, or tech features of the A7, but it comes close. You may also want to take a look at the 2018 Audi A6$49,700. While it belongs to the smaller midsize class and has a smaller trunk, the A6 has a similar amount of passenger space to the A7. The A6 is outstanding as a sports sedan and is also our pick as the 2018 Best Luxury Midsize Car for Families . The 2016 Audi A7 marks the fifth model year of the car’s first generation, which launched in 2012 and includes the 2018 A7 . The 2015 A7 models offer most of the 2016’s features, with the exception of the 2016 A7’s updated exterior styling and infotainment interface, as well as the increased performance from the V6 and V8 engines. Still, the 2015 A7 has a higher score and a lower average price than the 2016, making it the better buy. Compare the 2014, 2015, and 2016 A7 » Which Used Audi A7 Model Is Right for Me? Audi offers the 2016 A7 in four trims A7 Premium Plus, A7 Prestige, S7, and RS 7. The A7 Premium Plus has an 8-inch infotainment screen, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, keyless entry, a power tailgate, and heated front seats. Out of the four trims, it’s the best value overall. The A7 Prestige trim adds a Bose sound system, a head-up display, and ventilated front seats. The four-seat Audi S7 and Audi RS 7 trims add sport seats and an adaptive air suspension. See 2016 Audi A7 trims and specs » 2016 Audi A7 Safety Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tested the 2016 A7. Audi’s Driver Assistance package includes a 360-degree view camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with brake assist, and lane keep assist. A night vision camera with pedestrian detection is also available in all but the base Premium Plus trim level. 2016 Audi A7 Versus the Competition Which Is Better 2016 Audi A7 or 2016 BMW 6 Series? The 2016 BMW 6 Series is available as a four-door coupe Gran Coupe. The 6 Series offers comparable fuel economy to the A7, as well as punchy engine performance and elegant interior styling. Both have limited rear headroom. The Audi is the better car overall, thanks in part to its roomier trunk and more athletic handling. Used A7 models are typically more affordable as well. However, it’s worth noting that the BMW is expected to be more reliable. Which Is Better 2016 Audi A7 or 2016 Audi A8? Both of these Audis have opulent cabins, smooth yet agile handling, and nearly all the same safety features. Though their prices were drastically different when they were new, the average price of a used 2016 Audi A8 is almost identical to that of a used A7. The A8’s back seat outshines the A7’s thanks to its extra seating space, available DVD screens, and optional massaging functions, but the A7 has much more cargo space. You can’t go wrong with either of these Audis, so pick the one that fits your lifestyle best. Which Is Better 2016 Audi A7 or 2016 Audi A6? The 2016 Audi A6 and A7 share the same vehicle platform. As a result, both have pleasant driving dynamics, upscale styling, and nearly all of the same convenience and safety features. It’s tough to go wrong with either. That said, the A6 has cozier rear seating, an available four-cylinder engine with higher fuel economy up to 24/34 mpg city/highway, and used car prices that are often much, much lower. The A7 still holds a big advantage, though its spacious hatchback. Compare the A7, A8, and A6 » 2016 A7 Performance How Does the 2016 Audi A7 Drive? The Audi A7 has a supercharged V6 with 333 horsepower All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are standard. The engine feels refined and zips the Audi up to speed confidently, and its passing power is impressive. For even hotter performance, look to the S7 and RS 7 models. The Audi S7 has a turbocharged V8 with 450 horsepower; the RS 7 raises that figure to 560 horsepower. Audi also offered an A7 TDI model with a turbodiesel V6 in 2016 – see our advisory on diesel-powered A7’s below. The A7 balances ride comfort and sporty handling exceptionally well. Its suspension cushions passengers from bumps in the road, yet also enables the A7 to corner sharply. Its steering is light but accurate, helping the Audi drive like a much smaller, nimbler car. Models equipped with the available S line Sport package have a stiffer ride. Does the 2016 Audi A7 Get Good Gas Mileage? The A7’s impressive acceleration with its base V6 doesn’t come at the cost of fuel efficiency. In fact, its fuel economy rating is one of the highest in the class. It achieves an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Read more about A7 performance » 2016 A7 Interior How Many People Does the 2016 A7 Seat? The system has not been evaluated for ease of use. 2016 Audi A7 Features The A7 dazzles with elegant interior styling, quality materials, and attention to detail. All models have an 8-inch infotainment screen, navigation, Bluetooth, USB inputs, and a touchpad that senses handwriting, which makes it easy to add navigation destinations. Available features include a head-up display that projects pertinent driving information onto the windshield. The infotainment system responds quickly to inputs and features user-friendly menus. Audi's have been very reliable and the A7 feels very sporty while still being very smooth and I like this better than Mercedes' CLS competitor.
